Himalayas Cannot Be Tamed Without Geologists” – Dr. Ritesh Arya, Guinness World Record Holder

--- Press Note “Himalayas Cannot Be Tamed Without Geologists” – Dr. Ritesh Arya, Guinness World Record Holder Sub-headline: “Kalka–Shimla Railway built with geological wisdom stands firm, while Himachal’s roads collapse every monsoon due to engineering without geology.” Himachal Pradesh is paying the price for ignoring geology. Every monsoon, roads collapse, slopes give way, and villages are cut off. Billions of rupees are spent on repairs, yet the destruction repeats itself. The root cause is clear: our roads are designed and built without geological knowledge. Unlike the Kalka–Shimla railway line, which has stood the test of time because it was planned with geological wisdom, most of our roads are based on Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) prepared in offices by non-geologists. The result is a nightmare of recurring landslides and sinking roads. Major Blunders in Road Construction 1. Indiscriminate hill cutting for retaining walls – Instead of building walls only where required, slopes...

Geothermal Energy in the Himalayas: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Agneyodgara (Lava Energy) Concept

Abstract Title: Geothermal Energy in the Himalayas: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Agneyodgara (Lava Energy) Concept Author: Dr. Ritesh Arya The Himalayas, known for their tectonic dynamism, host several geothermal provinces including Puga, Chumathang, Panamik, and Manikaran. These geothermal fields, linked to deep-seated faults and magmatic intrusions, represent untapped renewable resources capable of transforming the energy landscape of India. Field investigations by the author since the 1990s have documented hot springs, fumaroles, and hydrothermal alterations indicating the presence of shallow geothermal reservoirs. The Puga geothermal field in Ladakh, one of the most promising sites, has recorded temperatures exceeding 200°C at shallow depths, placing it in the high-enthalpy category suitable for power generation. Beyond Puga, low- to medium-enthalpy systems can be harnessed for space heating, greenhouse agriculture, and geotourism, thereby offering socio-economic upli...

“Dollar = Rupee” – Dr Arya’s Call for True Trade Equality

: “Dollar = Rupee” – Dr Arya’s Call for True Trade Equality GeoEconomist and geologist Dr. Ritesh Arya has coined a powerful slogan for global trade reform: “Dollar = Rupee.” At first glance, it sounds like a simple exchange rate equation, but its meaning is far deeper—it is a vision for true trade equality in the modern world. The Vision Behind the Slogan For decades, global trade has been skewed by unequal currency values. The US dollar has enjoyed the status of the world’s reserve currency, while currencies like the Indian rupee remain undervalued. Arya’s slogan “Dollar = Rupee” calls for: Parity in trade relations , where no country is handicapped by artificially weak exchange rates. Economic sovereignty , so that developing nations like India can trade on equal footing with the West. A shift in mindset , from dependency on dollar dominance to recognition of the rupee’s potential strength. The Reality Check Today, 1 USD ≈ 83 INR. This reflects differences in per capi...

Dr. Ritesh Arya Visits Gilbert Hill: A Forgotten Geological Treasure in Mumbai's Urban Jungle

PRESS NOTE Dr. Ritesh Arya Visits Gilbert Hill: A Forgotten Geological Treasure in Mumbai's Urban Jungle Mumbai, 15 June 2025 — Renowned geologist and Tethys Fossil Museum Director Dr. Ritesh Arya visited Gilbert Hill, one of Mumbai’s most extraordinary geological monuments, known for its 66-million-year-old columnar basalt formations—the remnants of the Deccan volcanic activity that possibly contributed to the extinction of dinosaurs. What should have been a celebrated natural wonder turned out to be a neglected site struggling to breathe under concrete and urban sprawl. Dr. Arya had to make considerable effort to locate Gilbert Hill, now nearly hidden amidst buildings and lacking directional signage or any display of geological significance. Though declared a National Geological Monument by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the site's preservation tells another story. The GSI has attempted conservation by drilling, bolting, and grouting to stabilize the columnar join...
